Rome, the Eternal City, where even the trams seem to enjoy historical monument protection. On the tram network, beautiful Stanga trams from the 1940s still circulate, and it feels as though time has stood still on the remaining stretch of the Rome-Giardinetti railway line, whose very existence is a miracle.
Lisbon’s trams are more than just a tourist attraction – they’re a vital part of the city’s soul. Winding through narrow streets and steep hills, these iconic yellow trams, like the famous tram 28, evoke a nostalgic charm that captures the essence of Lisbon.
The Mixnitz - Sankt Erhardt narrow-gauge railway offers a unique and fascinating glimpse into Austria's industrial heritage. Operating daily to transport materials for a magnesium grinding plant, it remains a vital, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient lifeline, despite its rolling stock being over 50 years old.
Due to the construction industry's insatiable demand for raw materials, mountains are being demolished, with the Očura area witnessing this process firsthand. The extracted limestone is primarily transported by trucks, but occasionally, massive trains are also loaded with it for transport.
MÁV Rail Tours' classic locomotives are kept busy with various tasks. Stone transportation has begun between Recsk and Macs, near Debrecen, while the company's M40 locomotive operates on the Tisza Lake express train. Additionally, a Nohab locomotive is assisting with another railway construction project in the area.
Even well during the steam era, the development of the Romanian railway was symbolized by these fast and posh motorcars. They spent their last decades in regional service, and although they were over eighty, their retirement was not yet scheduled. No one thought they were immortal, but neither did anyone expect that it would all end so suddenly.
This album shows the photos of three, more or less successful photo trips to the Eastern edge of the European Union, Matovce.
Long-distance and suburban trains coming from the south cross the waters around Stockholm on the magnificent Årsta Bridges and pass by the historic Old Town before arriving at Stockholm Central. Only modern trains operate here, but our album also features some classic vehicles, along with others that have been replaced by newer generations.
Somewhere in Western Ukraine, in the shadow of the Carpathians, time seemed to stand still in 2010. The station at Ivano-Frankivsk and the surrounding branch lines moved at their own quiet pace—rusted tracks, faded locomotives, and slow-moving trains preserved the rhythm of a bygone era. Back then, it may have felt like just another ordinary day. Now, in the noise of war, that stillness feels almost dreamlike.
Due to the differing electrification systems between Germany and Belgium, multi-system locomotives are only used for express trains, while freight trains are hauled by powerful diesel engines between the Montzen and Aachen West border stations. Once the locomotive change is eliminated, the Montzen shunting yard, which once played a significant role, will lose its last function.
